NJCU Celebrates D.Sc. Graduates in Hooding Ceremony

JERSEY CITY, N.J. | On May 26, the   (NJCU) Civil Security Leadership, Management, and Policy (CSLMP) held its Doctor of Science program hooding ceremony to honor its three doctoral graduates who earned their D.Sc. at the 2023 Commencement held on May 30, in NJCU’s prestigious and one-of-a-kind CSLMP program.



NJCU faculty from the Professional Security Studies Department participated in the ceremony, which was moderated by Dr. Juste Codjo, the director of the D.Sc. program. Donna Adair Breault, Ph.D., Interim Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dr. Abdullah Al-hayajneh, Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity and co-chair of the Professional Security Studies Department, offered remarks.

The following D.Sc. students were hooded at the ceremony:

  • James G. Kailie, D.Sc., U.S. Army Veteran
  • Thomas F. Watson, D.Sc., Col. U.S. Air Force (Retired)

NJCU’s CSLMP doctoral program allows students to study, improve, and develop best practices in civil security with lessons in national security, emergency management, cyber security and defense, homeland security, information assurance, crisis communications, criminal justice, and strategic planning. Together these areas of Civil Security constitute core necessities for improving community resiliency and solving complex challenges and threats that local, state, regional, national, and international policymakers and leaders must confront. Completion of this advanced degree prepares one to assume executive-level responsibilities within government, business or education and to become post-secondary educators.
