JERSEY CITY, N.J. | (NJCU), led by its Office of Military & Veterans Services, has been recognized as a 2022-2023 Military Friendly庐 School and ranked with Gold Designation, militaryfriendly.com announced on March 7.
It is the first time NJCU, which has been previously honored as a bronze and silver-level recipient, has been classified as a Military Friendly Gold institution in the Small Public category.
"NJCU is proud to be recognized for its work with our students in the military,鈥 said Jodi Bailey, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs. 鈥淣JCU is a better place because of the military community on campus. Our students are driven, entrepreneurial, hard-working, and dedicated to continuing education. Our faculty and staff are focused on honoring these students and helping them attain their degrees. We pledge to continue expanding services and programs for our students in the military."
Institutions earning the Military Friendly School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2022-2023 survey with 665 earning special awards for going above the standard.
The 2022-2023 Military Friendly Schools list will be published in the May and October issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and can be found at .
Elaine Gargiulo, Director of Military & Veterans Services at NJCU, said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e serving our students in a one-stop shop capacity to help them get from admissions to graduation and beyond. In addition to helping them academically, we assist with external resources, offer career opportunities to explore, and aid in their networking. For veterans, their fellow veterans are a family, and we treat them like family as well. I think as a whole, a resource like that is invaluable to our military and veterans students. Our graduation rates are higher, our retention rates are higher, and as NJCU鈥檚 focus to aid this population of students continues to improve, so have our resources. We are proud of this distinction as a Gold-level ranked university and celebrate what it represents.鈥
Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by Viqtory with input from the Military Friendly Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution鈥檚 survey scores with the assessment of the institution鈥檚 ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
Kayla Lopez, National Director of Military Partnerships, Military Friendly, added: 鈥淢ilitary Friendly is committed to transparency and providing consistent data-driven standards in our designation process. Our standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the Military Community. This creates a competitive atmosphere that encourages colleges to evolve and invest in their programs consistently. Schools who achieve awards designation show true commitment in their efforts, going over and above that standard.鈥
